So, you’ve just received your new favorite piece from KRINIA Jewelry. We want you to love wearing it for years to come.

Because we craft our jewelry using solid Sterling Silver (925), it is designed to last a lifetime. However, silver is a living metal. It interacts with its environment, which means it needs a little TLC to keep that signature shine.

Here is everything you need to know about caring for your silver.

First, let’s bust a myth: Tarnish isn’t a sign of poor quality. Actually, it’s the opposite. It proves your jewelry is made of genuine silver.

Oxidation (that dark tint) happens when silver reacts with oxygen, sulfur in the air, or even the natural pH of our skin. It’s a completely natural process, and the best news is that it’s 100% reversible.

To keep your silver bright for longer, minimize its contact with chemicals. A good rule of thumb is to make your jewelry the last thing you put on before you leave the house and the first thing you take off when you get home.

  • Avoid Chemicals: Perfumes, lotions, hairspray, and household cleaners can accelerate tarnishing. Let your beauty products absorb into your skin before putting on your rings or necklaces.
  • Water Wise: While fresh water is usually fine, avoid wearing your silver in swimming pools (chlorine is harsh) or natural hot springs (sulfur will darken silver instantly).

Air and humidity are the main reasons unworn silver gets dark.

  • Keep it airtight: Store your pieces in the Krinia Jewelry box or a jewelry pouch.
  • Pro Tip: For longer storage, place your jewelry in a small ziplock bag and squeeze the air out before sealing. This “vacuum” effect works wonders against oxidation.
  • Separate them: To avoid scratches—especially on our high-polish sculptural rings—try not to jumble metal pieces together.

Is your jewelry looking a little dull? Here is how to bring the sparkle back in minutes.

1. The Polishing Cloth (For a quick shine): For light tarnish, nothing beats a specialized silver polishing cloth. Gently rub your jewelry to remove the oxidation. This works perfectly for smooth surfaces and restoring the high-shine finish.

2. The Soap & Water Method (Deep clean): If dirt has built up in the textures of your jewelry (like our hammered or engraved designs), a wash is best:

  1. Mix a little mild dish soap with warm water in a bowl.
  2. Let the jewelry soak for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently clean intricate corners and settings.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
  5. Important: Dry completely with a soft cloth. Moisture is not a friend to stored silver!

Please Note: Avoid using toothpaste, baking soda, or bleach to clean your silver. These can be too abrasive and might scratch the surface or damage natural gemstones.
